What to do with Christmas or aka Christ’s Mass

holiday treeLet us step back and consider for a moment that even using the term “Christmas” is unscriptural and as professed Christians, aside from the fact that Jesus was NOT born on December 25th, yet another lie that erroneously stems from the Roman Catholic Church, it is clearly a combination of the words “Christ’s Mass” or the “Mass of Christ“, meaning the SACRIFICE of Christ, OVER and OVER again on Roman Catholic altars. It immediately reveals the link to the apostasy of the Roman Catholic Church of which many would perhaps already claim to be separated from, in knowing this truth.

It is important to mention as well there is nothing presented in the infallible Word of God that even hints at such a term Christ Mass and we are clearly commanded to NOT ADD to what is already written.

As an EX-Catholic, I personally find the use of the term “Christmas” to be very offensive and I can only just imagine how it must make our Lord and Savior Savior Jesus Christ feel, especially when hearing it from those who claim to know very well the connection between the Roman CatholicMASS” and it’s “false christ” in that it is tied to “another Jesus” that was clearly NOT preached in God’s Word. See http://carm.org/mass-and-sacrifice-christ

It’s as if to say we are “ok” with the total disregard of Christ’s ONE TIME sacrifice for our sins, NEVER to be offered again, in our flippant use of such a word and suggests we are YOKED in agreement with the RCC in their continual DAILY sacrifice of Jesus over and over again as if He somehow didn’t quite get the job DONE. Does anyone else not see the seriousness in this matter? Think long and hard about the statement you are making when you say to someone “Merry Christmas” or “Christmas“. There is NO denying this issue if you are truly a born again Christian.

In God’s Holy Word we are not asked nor commanded to remember His birth on a particular day, but instead commanded to remember His death, burial and resurrection. “…do THIS in remembrance of me.”

Christ NEVER instructed His followers to “celebrate His birthday” in memory of Him and then have us pretend it’s ALL about Him in trying to JUSTIFY that DAY when it clearly instead only idolizes MATERIALISM, promoting both deception and LIES. All hiding behind the deceivable works of satan, in presenting a jolly old man in a red suit named Santa Claus (coincidence, I think not) whom the UNGODLY world we live in promotes as being just as omnipresent as God Himself! “He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when your awake, he knows when you are bad or good, so be good for goodness sakes.“)

To make matters worse, the world now celebrates it on December 25th, a date that was accepted by the RCC to appease pagans in their worship of false gods during this time, so the RCC could enticingly draw them in, and placed them under their rule. Yet the RCC still allowed their pagan customs and feast day practices unto other gods to remain, but instead just yoked this feast day celebration within the parameters of the Roman Catholic Church, in an attempt to somehow Christianize it, all in the name of Christianity. Wow. PRIOR to the Roman Catholic Church compromising the faith in such a way, the true followers of Jesus Christ in fact NEVER celebrated Christ’s birthday on this day or any other day. Why? Because they didn’t do that which was not written and revealed in God’s Word. Rather the worship of Christ in both Spirit and Truth was far more important.

The point of the matter is, it’s NOT what Christmas means to “me” that counts, is it? What MATTERS is what it means to CHRIST. Think of those in the Old Testament who wanted to do things THEIR WAY and the consequences of such. Saying surely it still HONORED God, and in doing so, just in one example, made for themselves a GOLDEN CALF. Remember what GOD said about that and the WRATH set against those because they DID what was ACCEPTABLE in their OWN EYES in worshipping God and NOT how He asked to be worshipped? Again ponder on this for a few minutes.

JESUS CHRIST represents the TRUTH. As such He will only accept WORSHIP that is TRUE, meaning NOT false. And He certainly WON’T share the stage with the love of MATERIALISM and a perpetuated LIE passed on by the RCC that the world NOW proclaims is His birthday (which is anything but), because it isn’t. We should be celebrating His birth in our hearts everyday but even moreso His death, burial and resurrection. However if Jesus Christ wanted us to focus on celebrating His birth on Dec 25th, there most likely would have been specific instructions for doing so and a precendence set by the apostles. I don’t think for a second, it is a mere coincidence that no date is given of His birth, nor any reference to even celebrating it MAN’S WAY, within the Word of God.

Is it good to reflect on Christ’s birth? ABSOLUTELY. But can we not also reflect on this day just by getting into the Word for ourselves? Nonetheless it is wrong to celebrate His birthday with heathen customs tied in and pretend it is somehow honors the Lord, much less on a day the world has falsely adopted as such in error, passed on from an apostate religion.

Sadly most churches would be more concerned about losing “church membership” and sticking out like a sore thumb, so they won’t even go there. When Jesus Christ and His apostles walked the earth, they too were in the minority in wanting to tell people the truth, so why should we expect it be any different now? People try to justify and say even if it’s not His birthday the day still honors Him. I don’t see how.

People need to understand and care why the world DOES celebrate it on this day. Problem is it’s not biblical. The reason we as Christians celebrate this day (which appears the Protestant Reformation clearly never grasped and understood) is because in many ways we still have not fully separated from Rome. Sadly for the most part, the Christian churches of today still want to have their cake and eat it too. Many in our area host a time with a Santa and Mrs. Claus even stopping by. Yes in our minds we want to have every reason to celebrate it and make it all OK.

I for one use to love this day. I would host Xmess parties ever single year especially on Xmess eve. Would have Santa and Mrs. Claus stop by. Promoted the lie to my daughter that Santa really DID exist and she better be good because he after all was watching her and she would not receive any “material gifts” otherwise. Alcohol /cocktails flowed. I went to church. I thought it was great fun overall. I gave no thought to whether any of it really honored Him much less did I ever research it. Lets face it, for the average Christian if we took away all the fanfare, no gifts, no tree, no shopping till you drop leading up to this day, no Black Friday, no Santa, no pretty lights, I wonder just how many quote “Christians” would still be all that excited about celebrating a day we originally said was in His honor? I bet few and far between. It’s time to be honest with ourselves.

Consider this. Say your birthday was on December 25th. Keep in mind its suppose to be YOUR birthday and all. Yep everyone gets together that day and they have gifts for everyone except you, they spend the least amount of time with YOU, again the person who the BIRTHDAY is all about. Just how exactly would that make you feel? Keep in mind you and me are not God.

Scenario #2. My birthday is ACTUALLY April 9th, in the spring. Yet people insist it’s on December 25th and so won’t acknowledge it as such on my REAL date of birth but instead promote the lie. I keep telling them NO it’s in the spring, it’s in April. They ignore it and continue to celebrate it in December ignoring the correction. Now granted I am not big on celebrating my birthday anyhow, but it would offend me that people would do this.

Scenario #3. How would Jesus feel if we tried to erroneously claim His birthday was on October 31st, the night of Halloween, a high holy day of satanic worship? Yet it’s all suppose to be about His birth correct? And we try to acknowledge it as such amidst all the ghosts, goblins, witches and our participation in this dark event. But its OK we still justify it in our minds. How is this any less offensive to Christ in acknowledging all the other pagan stuff adopted into December 25th by Rome? Would Jesus say that was worshipping Him in Spirit and Truth? Why are we not testing anything anymore?

When things are clearly pagan they are pagan. The true holy biblical feasts spoken of in the Bible of which the Jews celebrate back then are a completely different story. Some may accuse me of being too legalistic. Legalism in this matter is when you try to say you must observe a day or not that WAS already biblical. Xmess is not biblical. It arose because ROME, specifically the RCC tried to appease the pagans in the worship of their false gods at the time and then label it under the name of Christ. Reinvent it as such. Problem is the early church did NOT celebrate Christmas it UNTIL Rome came along. We cannot Christianize pagan events. We cannot Christianize nor justify that which is a LIE.

I say again, people would NOT love this day said it be in Christ’s honor WITHOUT all the fanfare. If our get-togethers were just that, with NO sign of presents, no tree, no Xmess cookies, no holiday parties, no Santa, no stockings, no holiday decorations, in all HONESTLY, most people, especially outside of Christians, would just not bother with it or it would be just another ho-hum day as usual.

It sickens me when people say Merry Xmas knowing what I now know. I am saddened when people say “Jesus is the Reason for the Season” or “Let’s put Christ back in Xmess“. I almost want to gag. Let’s be truthful here. JESUS CHRIST is so far removed from this day in so many ways it isn’t even funny. He is NOT the reason we celebrate this season. He would want NO part of this idolatrous worship of materialism. I often think people throw out these catch phrases mentioned above because it makes it easier for them to justify and feel better about embracing all the materialism and worldliness that goes along with it…..yes all in the name of Christ. They’ve done it for so long it becomes a habit that’s hard to break. Who are we fooling? Jesus said take up your cross and follow Him. Deny yourself. Do not adopt the WAYS of the heathen. I don’t know how much clearer that can be.

When people say “What is Christmas to me” they should be more concerned with what it actually “IS to Christ.” And ask themselves does it have more to do with pleasing SELF or Him? Because last I read we were to please Him, worshipping Him in Spirit AND Truth and actually denying self. A holiday that is a lie, with pagan roots, only adopted by ROME and passed on—–NOT truth. Sorry.

I have difficulty in explaining how this gives God GLORY when we are commanded to 100% worship Him in Spirit and Truth, the ONLY form of worship He will even accept. If this day was TRULY all about Him we would DESIRE to focus the DAY we claim is ALL about Him, in praise and honor of Him 100% exclusively ON this day, period. God shares his GLORY with no one and don’t kid yourself. He won’t even begin to share His glory with the IDOLATRY of materialism and our love of this world. I pray you consider these thoughts today.

For the record, let me say however I’m not suggesting that just because you take part in this day and choose to give gifts out of love to family and friends, that it somehow automatically makes you a heathen or a pagan at best. But please don’t say THIS celebration is all about Christ and His birthday because it is not based on the truth. We can’t keep perpetuating the lie.

Again if you wish to spend time with family and pass out a few gifts on this day, it alone is your decision. God knows the intentions of every ones heart in this matter. The act of passing out gifts in itself is not a sin and certainly NOT exclusive to this day alone. Just please understand the deception of the enemy and try your best to not conform to the world and not adopt the ways of the pagans. Minimize at the very least, your participation in this holiday and be not like the world. AVOID promoting the lie of Santa and embracing the love of materialism in so much that it becomes moreso than your love for Christ. Otherwise it can easily become a snare and result in the sin of covetousness and idolatry.

Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV) 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

I prayfully ask that AS A CHRISTIAN you consider NOT referring to it as “Christmas” because this day clearly does not give honor to the Lord in TRUTH. It is based on a lie from none other than the RCC. Satan would clearly love to have you think otherwise. Give this day NO regard or as little regard as possible and if you choose to be around family and friends at this time, make a point to tell them the truth. Consider you may be the only one who ever bothers to tell them…. I realize this is a sensitive subject and so we have to approach it with sensitivity. But in the end just know THE TRUTH IN JESUS CHRIST SETS US FREE. There is nothing more loving than sharing the Gospel and the Truth about this day and the roots of such with someone even if they choose to reject it. God can still use us at this time to plant seeds. May we continue to pray they take root in a world that so desparately needs Christ.

For it is written in Hebrews 10:10-13 (KJV) By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can NEVER take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered ONE sacrifice for sins FOR EVER, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be MADE his footstool.

Jeremiah 10:2-5 (KJV) Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

Isaiah 42:8 (KJV) I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Deuteronomy 16:21-22(KJV) 21 Thou shalt not plant thee a grove of any trees near unto the altar of the Lord thy God, which thou shalt make thee. 22 Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.

Psalm 106:35 (KJV) But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

Ezekiel 8:15-17 (KJV) And He said to me, ‘Have you seen this, O son of man? You shall see greater abominations than these.’ And He brought me into the inner court of the LORD’S house, and behold, at the opening of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the L ORD and their faces toward the east; and they worshiped the sun toward the east. And He said to me, ‘Have you seen, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they do the hateful things which they do here?’

“Have I now become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” Galatians 4:16
……I hope not but I’m prepared to take that chance.

  1. Todd Sullivan says:

Hey Sis; and I call you that not only because you are my sister in law, but my sister in Christ. I just wanted to post a comment on your blog about Christmas from the perspective of a person who did not grow up catholic, but grew in a Bible believing home and attended a God fearing, Gospel teaching church. (It was a non-denominational Church called Gospel Crusaders, I just love that name so had to add that to my note! Haha) Please understand I do not want to get into any long discussions or debate on this subject because you know I know the history. I just wanted to give you some thoughts from someone who has never been catholic to pray about.

I guess I should probably preface this by saying my heart aches with how Christmas has become so commercialized too. It is no longer about the birth, and first few prophecies about our savior coming to fruition, but about materialism. Every time I hear someone say, happy holidays and not Merry Christmas I get a little knot in my stomach. So many people in this sinful world keep trying to take Christ out of Christmas, and when I hear a believer insinuate I should not celebrate Christmas it hurts even a little more.

Brenda, Christmas to me is all about Jesus. Please do not try to take that away from me. My memories of Christmas from when I was a child are not about any of the gifts I may have received but all about the Gift God gave us in His Son. I loved how my brother and sister and I would argue to see who would get to read Luke 2, on Christmas Eve. I loved searching our Christmas tree for the nail (it was more of a small railroad stake) ornament my mom would place on it to remind us of what Jesus did on the cross for us. It is about the memories of walking the neighborhood of our church singing carols all about my Lord and Savior. It’s about my pastor face turning a wonder shade of red as the Holy Spirit sang through him as he sang “Oh Holy Night.” It is about the special communion on Christmas Eve we would have when the bread used to symbolize Christ’s body was a big hunk of freshly baked bread, where each member of my church family would each tear off a piece before partaking at the altar with the cup of grape juice of our small church. I can still hear my great-grandpa’s voice as he prayed before our family sat down together for Christmas dinner; and my dad’s voice cracking the first time the torch to pray was passed on to him after grandpa passed away.

I am so sorry that you grew up in a RC home, and so happy that you have finally seen the true Gospel and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. I pray that all from the RCC will someday see the light as well. With all the bad and evil that has become of Christmas, I will never forget what Christmas means to me. And that is Jesus.

  2. Kathleen Scuteri says:

Very well written Brenda. I agree 100%

  3. A friend of mine on Facebook said this and it is certainly quite relevant to this discussion~
Here’s my question. What about ANY of it has to do with Jesus? “Jesus is the reason for the season”. “Let’s put Christ BACK in Christmas”. Both statements will be all over fb but I don’t think anyone really stops to thing about them. The tree / santa / gifts /lights /decorations part is clearly not bibical at it’s core as it’s a lie and is completely secular whether you believe the pagan roots or not. A lie is a lie and God doesn’t say it’s okay to lie to your kids about a pseudo-god in the name of fun.(which the qualities assigned to santa make him).

The “religious” side of Christmas is 100% Catholic so I completely understand why those who choose to be Catholic celebrate it. What I don’t get is why non-Catholics who are so quick to remind people how different they are from Catholics not only celebrate Catholic “holidays” but get angry and defensive if you tell them what they are doing. It’s historical fact. The RCC created the “Christmas” celebration right down to the name. (which isn’t bibical either)

Mixing the two (secular and religious) is also a creation of the RCC. The bibical time line indicates that Jesus was born in the fall. It was moved to December to blend the pagan with the religious so the pagans would join the RCC. It was compromise.

Before you get defensive and say “that’s not what it means to me” remember, it really doesn’t matter what it “means” to you or me. It only matters what it means to HIM. If it’s about what “it means to you” then own it for what it is, about you, instead of making excuses. You can’t “redeem” something for God that He never said He wanted from you. PLEASE don’t take my word for it either. Study and pray about it yourself.

  4. I also encourage people to watch and share with others these TWO videos on the error of Xmas via You Tube.

    2nd one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZAL80TMLaE&feature=youtu.be

  5. For most people I personally think they’d rather not know this stuff. Especially if they feel it might create a CONFLICT within themself between the Holy Spirit trying to convict them of the err in all of this (by embracing it) and their FLESH (sinful nature) telling them (via satan) “Well it really doesn’t mean that to ME though!”. However just as the serpent beguiled Eve….so do many Christians ONLY want to have “ears for the Truth” when it’s convenient for them and as long as it DOESN’T put a damper on their parade (fun). They want to have their cake and eat it too. Truth becomes “secondary” to the pleasure they receive in participating and perpetuating the LIE. I wonder how God feels about their ignorance in having NO desire TO know the truth about the false celebration of Christmas? 🙁

  6. Gayle McKay says:

    Dear Brenda,
This whole question of why Christians celebrate Christmas was brought to my attention by my son who became a Christian in China 2 years ago.I did not celebrate Christmas last year & I won’t be doing so this year as I am struggling with God’s approval of this pagan ritual that I have fond memories of but cannot find a biblical basis for.
I think it is even more confusing when your Pastor tells you “it is o.k to celebrate Christmas, just remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.” You & I both know that this is not true.
So I just want to say Thankyou for your biblical viewpoint on this.I have been praying about this & it has really encouraged me.
    God Bless
