Our Righteousness are as Filthy Rags

Standing for ChristIt is very sad to witness the number of false religions in this world who believe and teach that our eternal salvation is obtained by our works, or by faith + works.

But that’s only part of the problem. There are a growing number of Protestant and Evangelical churches who also unbiblically believe and teach that salvation is received by faith plus works. Yet when Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman concerning salvation at the well of Jacob,  He told her: ” If thou knewest the GIFT of God…” John 4:10.

Consider the many other such Scriptural references throughout the Bible which clearly state that salvation or eternal life is from the Lord, and that it is the GIFT of GodBible believing Christians need to stand firm in the Word of God and know the Faith alone position is the true Biblical teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Apostles in obtaining the FREE gift, the salvation of God. Salvation is not based on faith plus works, but on faith alone. God’s promise is ” Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be save..” Acts 16:31. Faith plus something else, is not only unbiblical, but also an incorrect and a dangerous teaching. The apostle Paul corrected the Galatians believers who were allowing themselves to fall into err by adding works of the law to their faith in Christ. Faith plus works is not the condition of receiving God’s salvation and eternal life! It is unbiblical to speak of a “free gift” which costs us, or gives us something to do to repay it. A gift needs only be accepted. A gift cannot be earned and yet still be called a gift, nor does it demand or require payment. Once we are saved, then there must be the good works or the fruit of our faith, but not in order to get saved, nor to add anything to God’s perfect gift of salvation which we have already received, but to do the good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Romans 2:10.

One of the greatest lies perpetuating is the one where Satan has inspired the religions of the world to teach that salvation of our soul, or eternal life, is earned by our works, or by faith plus our works. But I ask you….what good works can man do who is twice a sinner, a sinner by nature, and a sinner by his own sins, who is spiritually dead, that God will accept? None! God’s Word clearly states that all our good works put together “our righteousness are as filthy rags.” Isaiah 64:6. Bringing our good works to God in order to accept us and save us, is like bringing to God a bunch of filthy rags, and God will never accept them. Consider that Cain tried and he was rejected. The religious pharisee, also tried to bring his good works to God, and God rejected him. It is never our good works or our righteousness by which God saves us, but the righteousness of Jesus Christ. ” Even the righteousness of God which is by faith (not by faith plus works) of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:22-24. Salvation is God’s FREE gift. It is FREE but very costly because it was fully paid by Christ’s death on the cross of Calvary.

Have you trusted and believed in Jesus? Are you saved? If not, you can be saved today, if you today believe in Christ. God’s promise is: ” Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Acts 16:31. ” For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shalt be saved.” Romans 10:13.

If a friend or relative presented you with a gift, no strings attached and you instead said to them “Please, let me pay you for that or at least do something to be worthy of receiving such a gift” how might that make you feel as the giver?

Let’s all think about that for a moment the next time we feel we must do something  to earn a GIFT that Jesus Christ clearly states we can never earn and how that rejection of His one time sacrifice on the cross in that He loved us so much, might as well be a rejection of Him.  I know how saddened I’d feel if someone rejected a gift I gave them personally only to say they needed to pay me for it or do something to actually earn it.

So it is with Jesus Christ.  Time to throw away your filthy rags and burn them up.
